I doubt many people who go from St. Vincent to Grandaddy to Animal Collective have ‘beiber fever’. It seems like waste of money/time/space for everyone involved. Maybe offer lower prices for indie labels but the ads only show up when listening to other indie labels or something like that.

I was sad cause it’s the worst thing that’s happened to me in a few weeks. Then I was happy…cause it was the worst thing that’s happened to me in a few weeks.
“‘If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you’ll most certainly be right.’ … For the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: ‘If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?’ And whenever the answer has been ‘No’ for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.” - Steve Jobs

Last Beastie Boys post, I swear. But here’s a scan of the Grand Royal page w/ Futterman’s Rule, which has some Adam Yauch biographical information as well. And a recipe from Yauch’s father, Noel. (It’s easier to read on my website, rather than in your dashboard.)
I’ll admit it’s not much, I enjoy a lot of the Beastie Boys music but wouldn’t categorize myself as anything above a casual listener. Regardless, the group was very influential on my musical tastes and here’s a quick little story of why/how.
It must’ve been around Middle School that I first heard ‘No Sleep Till Brooklyn’ coming through the speakers in my older cousin’s car. At the time I wasn’t that into music- I enjoyed a few songs off the radio but in the age before iPods and Spotify (maybe even Kazaa) my knowledge of music was pretty limited. This song was unlike anything I had heard before (my cousin was listening to a NYC college radio station, while I usually kept it on the only thing I knew at the time, the crappy mainstream ‘rock’ station).
There are very few songs that I heard one time and realized I needed to change my listening habits. Unfortunately, being as ipods were not around yet I really had no way of obtaining any of this new music that I knew I had to get my hands on.
A few years later I had gotten into a little better music but had given up on anything on the radio and pretty much anything hip-hop related at all. That’s when ‘Intergalactic’ came on in my dad’s car. Before the track came on I starting to feel physically sick (or just really bored) of the repetitive bullshit coming through the sound system but when ‘Intergalactic’ came on something went off in my brain and I loved it. The song was fun, well written, and very catchy. There was cool instrumentation that was unlike anything I’d heard and the lyrics weren’t mumbled nonsense about money/love/bitches/chains. Enough time had passed since hearing ‘No Sleep till Brooklyn’ that I was able to go home and put a shit-load of Beastie Boys tracks on my iPod.
While I never got as super into them as I quickly would with a handful of other bands and groups, if it wasn’t for these songs its quite possible I would’ve given up on modern music, gotten stuck in the classic rock phase, and never gotten into all the bands and hip-hop artists I’m into now. In a way the Beastie Boys are the single greatest stepping stone in my musical life and for that (not even to mention their amazing catalog of songs) I’ll always remember and be grateful. RIP Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch.

Handed down from Rivers Cuomo himself, the 15 Days of Weezer Tumblr Challenge has been passed from generation to generation for at least the last few weeks. Made to gauge the knowledge and dedication of Weezer fans, this challenge is not for the faint of heart. Failure to complete the 15 Days…
Day 1- Your all-time favorite Weezer song and why
No One Else- one of the first Weezer tracks I really liked and the most fun one to play/sing with on my own guitar
Why Bother? - the first song off Pinkerton I heard/ one that convinced me to listen to the album again after I didn’t ‘get it’ on the first listen.
El Scorcho - One of the few perfect songs ever made
Day 2- Rank all of Weezer’s studio albums from best to worst
Pinkerton, Blue, (insert huge drop in quality), Green, Hurley, Red, Raditude, Make Believe, Maladriot
Day 3- How you started listening to Weezer
I used to think they were alright because I’d really only heard singles and stuff off Red and Green, but then I saw them headline Bamboozle a few years ago and got into their older stuff. I guess I just didn’t get their appeal and what they were all about until I saw them live for some reason. Now they are one of my favorites based off the awesomeness of Blue and Pinkerton alone.
Day 4- A video of your favorite Weezer performance
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8RFTB5vgV_4&feature=related
Day 5- Your ultimate Weezer setlist
Blinkerton (easiest question ever)
Encore: Island in the Sun, Perfect Situation, If You’re Wondering
Day 6- Your prediction on their next album
A few solid singles but lacking overall, hopefully I’ll be wrong since Hurley one the best they’ve done in a while
Day 7- Your least favorite Weezer song and why
Probably just a random song off anything past Pinkerton cause its stale and has no emotion to it. Not gonna go with Beverly Hills cause to be honest its actually a fun song, just got overplayed on the shitty radio stations.
Day 8- Favorite Weezer lyric(s)
“We were good as married in my mind, but married in my mind’s no good”
Pretty much all of Pinkerton. Why Bother?, El Scorcho, and Butterfly come to mind.
Day 9- How Weezer has impacted your life
Pinkerton is probably the album I can relate to most (from any band). I also love how the music and guitar solos add to the emotion of the songs instead of simply supplementing it (El Scorcho is a perfect example of this, how the guitar lines are an extension of what Rivers is singing- especially the double time part and bridge). The goofy yet still serious style and attitude found on Blue and Pinkerton are pretty in line with how I live my life, so its nice to have some great music to listen to that I can relate to pretty well. The lyrics on Pinkerton are some of the best ever written by anyone and I turn to them whenever I’m down or whatever.
Day 10- Your dream Weezer collaboration (For example, they’ve already collaborated with Lil Wayne, All American Rejects, etc.)
Matt Sharp haha
Day 11- One band you would want Weezer to tour with
Muse would be cool I guess, or a more extensive Flaming Lips tour
Day 12- Your thoughts on how the band’s music has evolved since their creation in 1993
Studio: Amazing -> Perfection -> Okay -> Bad -> Okay -> Good
Live: Amazing - > Perfect
Pretty sure that general initial panning of Pinkerton really fucked with Rivers’ head which is really too bad. Don’t get me wrong, I really love a lot of the pop singles off Green to present day Weezer stuff- its just that Blue and Pinkterton are both in my top 10 albums of all time.
Day 13- One song you would like to see Weezer cover
I liked Paranoid Android, but maybe Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
Day 14- A letter to Rivers Cuomo
Keep rockin man, you’re awesome
Day 15- Whatever tickles your fancy
Ive got nothing, this was a fun survey thing though
