Another very solid album from Portugal the Man. Pretty straight forward for the most part, but they do deviate from the formula found on the most recent albums a few times and it pays off. The verses are catchier, the hooks are bigger- you’ll be singing and drumming along in no time. The flow of the album suffers from a weak middle, but the beginning and ending are both outstanding. If you already like Portugal you’ll dig this, if not this would be a pretty good introduction to the band.

This is pretty cool. You search for any artist/band and it gives you a map of related/similar artists. The closer two artists are, the greater the probability people will like both of them. I searched for Cocteau Twins.
Very neat!
Have fun
One of my coolest experiences was going through my parents old record collection and seeing, holding, and listening to 30 year old classics. What are my kids gonna do? Scroll through my iPhone 25 and be like “cool classics playlist dad”. Fuck that, I still buy vinyl.
I’d like to say something about this album surprised me, but at the same time the only surprising thing the National could do at this point is release an album that isn’t fantastic. Hyperbole aside, this album is great. Each track fits within a distinct mood yet stands on its own as well. It seems as though Matt spends more time singing in a somewhat higher register, though maybe its just the effect of aging. If you liked the National before, you’ll love this. If not, maybe start with Boxer or High Violet as those are slightly more accessible.

My first thoughts on the new Daft Punk album.
I liked it. Is it worth the never-ending and relentless hype? Probably not, but that shouldn’t take away from the fact that Random Access Memories is a very well produced and very catchy album. Some of the more straight forward songs (Fragments of Time, Lose yourself to Dance, Give Life…) caused me to lose interest, but when the songs hit they really stick. The song Giorgio by Morodor is a nice tribute to the now classic producer. The album overall does have a very cohesive feel that has definitely not been present in the earlier Daft Punk albums. It feels a lot more timeless and less gimmicky than the last albums as well.
